Strategy comes before curriculum

Dec 5, 2024

Strategy comes before curriculum.

Especially with a certification program.
I will often have folks come to me saying:
“Tina, I need to get my curriculum done first and then I’ll be ready to create a certification”
And my response is – that’s backwards. 😬
We don’t know what your curriculum needs to be until we nail down the strategy of your program.
Strategy is answering those big picture questions, including:
  • What is the promise of this program? To your students? And the people they serve?
  • Who is it for?
  • What exactly are they getting? And not getting? (of your existing IP)
  • What skills/abilities do they already have, and what do we need to teach them to utilize your frameworks?
  • What are they going to do with it? How will they deliver?
  • and more…
All of that to say – if you create your curriculum before your strategy you may end up having to go back and make changes once we nail down the strategy (or worse, go back to square one and start over)
Yes, you do need to have your frameworks and methodologies already developed and proven. Your “way of doing things”. <— that is the prerequisite for creating a certification
But you don’t need to have your curriculum and training completed first.

If you are ready to create a certification let’s connect – I’ve got a few ways to help make it easier for you. 💪
